VILLAGE VOICE
HOWDEN 2020 2020 was designated as an important year for our village, with intended commemorations including the 150th anniversary of the founding of our chapel and the 25th anniversary of the launching of our History Society. In addition, the Village Hall committee was leading on village -wide plans to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the end of WW2. Our aim was to foster a wonderful sense of community and involvement. Obviously, these plans are suspended because of the current, national crisis, with many of us now restricted in our socialising, and some of us being confined to our homes. However, we believe that fostering a strong sense of community and mutual support is now more important than ever! Our Project We want to set up a network of activity and mutual support, based around our homes. The idea is that we spend some of our time in purposeful and enjoyable activities and that we record and share what we have done and achieved. Recordings could take the form of photos and videos, emailed accounts or simply pen and paper diary entries. Activities might involve crafting, painting, recommendations of good books to read, garden bird watching, trying out recipes, DIY, creative writing…. the list could be endless. Our hope is that, when life returns to normal, the History Society will be able to compile and publish a record of how the people of Howden spent their days during this unusual time. It will be probably be of great interest to future generations! We would like as many Howden people as possible to get on board and to prove that isolation in the home doesn’t have to mean social isolation. In addition, we hope to offer a service to anyone without family or other support, who might want a telephone chat to brighten their day or might need help with any shopping. You can email or phone our coordinators on the numbers below (Please take this leaflet with you. We would be especially grateful if you could pass a leaflet on to anyone else who would benefit from being part of this network)
